Goodwill Gulf Coast serves the community’s needs by providing free medical assistance and equipment, financial wellness workshops, free tax preparation services, and free children’s books for families visiting our stores as well as for schools and daycares in an effort to encourage literacy.

Medical Assistance/Equipment Program

Alabama and Florida

Goodwill Gulf Coast's "We Share Project" provides adaptive medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and personal care items, available at no cost, with partial funding from the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation’s STAR Program. Medical equipment is available in our retail stores.

Financial Wellness and Free Tax Prep (VITA)

Alabama and Florida

Goodwill Gulf Coast offers financial education workshops and, through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, low to moderate income families can file their federal and state returns for free with assistance from a volunteer, IRS-certified, and trained tax preparer.

Children and books

Free Book Program

Children’s books for all ages are distributed free-of-charge to families visiting Goodwill Gulf Coast stores as well as to schools, daycares, and other organizations serving children in an effort to encourage and support literacy. We distribute over 100,000 books each year to local children.

Yes! If you need medical equipment such as a walker, a wheelchair, crutches, a bath bench, or other medical equipment, these items and more are available at no cost to anyone at any of our retail stores. Yes, through our Free Book Program, we distribute books to families and schools free of charge! Visit our Airport Outlet Store in Mobile, where you will have a wide variety of books to browse or contact Lydia Gaudet at (251) 380-7150 or LGaudet@goodwillgc.org.

A “Good Samaritan Voucher” is a coupon available to those in dire circumstances to purchase items in our retail stores. If you qualify, you can receive a voucher from participating churches, community centers, or the American Red Cross.
